a very special dr.

This was the last day of JEB's 13 day NICU stay when he was born.  Dr. ********* was our neonatologist thruout that stay.  He was absolutely wonderful!  It started when JEB was born as he walked us thru the news that JEB was going to be a very special child.  He began telling us about all of the wonderful things that children born with Down Syndrome could do in life, and how sweet they were, and what a blessing he could be.  He was so positive about it all. 

It seemed like such a whirlwind those few days that I was in the hospital after my c-section.   We began searching for all the information we could about Down Syndrome.  John would go home and do the research and bring it back for me to read.  Plus they had given us some information when he went into the NICU. 

Dr. ********* was always so glad when we came to visit JEB, which was three times a day.  We only lived about 2 min. from the hospital, so we were there as often as they would let us be there.  He told us how blessed we were to have this child, that GOD had chosen him just for us.  Of course, we knew this and had talked about it already. 

The 13 days passed, JEB was able to come home and we didn't really think about the drs and nurses in the NICU very much.  UNTIL, that first Christmas I included Dr. ********* in my Christmas card/family-friend letter list and of course, with a picture of JEB.  About a week after I had mailed them with our new phone number/address since we had since moved to Colorado, Dr. ********* called us!!  It was so cool!!  He called us to check in with us and to see how JEB was doing.  We were so surprised!!

That, in an of itself, was cool but the really neat thing is.......even now, 10 1/2 yrs. later, each time I send an updated letter/card with JEB's picture, he always calls us.  Just to check in and see how JEB is doing, and to see how we are doing.  Yesterday was that day.  He called, left us a message and we called him this morning and JEB got to talk to him really, for the first time.  He had a little conversation with him.  It was just the sweetest thing!!  Of all the things that this dr. does, it made us feel so special that he took the time to reconnect with one of his patients from long ago.

Thank you, Dr. *********!!  We love you!!
